We have used paintings by Rabindranath Tagore as background images on this website, primarily as a tribute to the great poet and philosopher on his one hundred and fiftieth birth anniversary. Tagore's dark, enigmatic images of women (and a few men), we believe, fall in line with Stree Samya Books' agenda of trying to make sense of the lives of women in the new world, beginning with the awakening of the modernist sensibilities in the late nineteenth/early twentieth century.
